About HopeCam
Think back to your childhood school days… your friends were everything. You shared practical jokes, laughter, recess, crushes and experiences that created your best memories.

Now, imagine that you got sick and could no longer be part of school life and were stuck at home. It would have been devastating.

That is what hundreds of local school children face when they are diagnosed with cancer.

When, HopeCam founder, Len Forkas’ son, Matt, was diagnosed with leukemia, the 9 year-old was forced to spend the better part of a year homebound while he underwent treatment. That’s when Matt’s father went to work. Coordinating with school and technology officials, he pioneered a new program to connect homebound kids to their peers and schoolroom. HopeCam connects these children with their classmates using computers with web cameras and a hi-speed Internet connection to the schoolroom and home of the patient. Times are scheduled with the teacher to allow the child to see and chat with friends at specified times during the day. Laughing, keeping up on what’s new, and staying connected can makke the recovery process go quickly.

HopeCam is a 501c non-profit corporation founded in 2002.
