Len's first stop in Ohio is the town of Oxford, home of Miami University. As he pedals into TS41 in the early hours of the morning, he is reflecting again on making it to the Missisippi River thanks to the inspiration of our DAY 9 child, Kyle from Paris, Kentucky. Kyle's parent writes:
"Kyle has not been allowed to go back to school, which he misses very much. He misses his friends and teacher, and was very sad that he couldn't attend school. That was when we were told about Hopecam and how we could stay in touch with Kyle’s classmates. Kyle has definitely enjoyed the times he has been able to talk with everyone."
Oxford is in Butler County of southwestern Ohio. It has a population of 21,371 with 47% of the population being between 20 and 24 as it is a college town for Miami University. In 1803 the previously uninhabited land was set aside for the college to be built and in 1830 the town was incorporated. The gold medalist swimmer Bill Mulliken is from Oxford. In the magazine “Forbes” Oxford was named “The Best College Town in America.”
