Why We Do It
“Very fun!”
– Carl, age 10

“Carl looked forward to our scheduled HopeCam times with his friends from school (2-3 times a week). He was able to keep up with the latest jokes, haircuts, and clothing styles. His teacher scheduled the link times around the daily recess schedule. The children who signed up for one of the slots to speak with Carl “gave up” 15 minutes of outside playtime. Carl really appreciated his friends’ efforts and was able to feel a part of the class.

Probably the highlight of our experience was being able to watch one boys’ latest dance routine… telephones and text email could not have shared that moment.”

I am writing on behalf of Carl to say that the Hope Cam is a wonderful tool. Last year, while Carl went through chemotherapy treatments, our class used it daily to talk to Carl and keep him connected to our classroom. However, not only Carl benefitted from the use of the Hope cam. The students in my class found it a great link to their friend and it helped them to understand what he was going through by getting to DIRECTLY communicate with him on a regular basis. What's more, it is so easy to use and integrate into your classroom that it provides little extra effort on the teachers part, but a huge payoff for all students. I would strongly reccommend the use of the Hope Cam in any such similar situations as the one we had. The Hope cam is a wonderful tool.
