“Ashleigh was diagnosed with ALL 4 days after school started for Kindergarten. She never had a chance to return that year because she spent so much time in and out of the hospital. She enrolled for Kindergarten again the following year to find that she was not attending more than 50% of the time. Then came a wonderful organization offering Ashleigh’s classroom at school and Ashleigh’s bedroom at home the Hopecam.

The camera gave the children that Ashleigh longed to be with the chance to talk and share with her and the same for herself as they waved and smiled at each other. Because of missing so much school it was the only connection that made it a very easy transition when able to attend, she felt like she knew the children. There was lots of laughter and wonderful greetings each time the Hopecam was used. I believe the benefit was as great for the classroom to see Ashleigh going through different stages of chemo and other treatment as it was for her to see them. I think one of the major things that we believe came from the Hopecam was that when children are allowed to share everything with each other and see the stages kids go through they become more aware of what “life” is really like. The support was beyond what we could have imagined just from lots of waves and giggles most of the time.” |
