Meet Oscar: A Little Superhero with a Big Spirit
As Len Forkas continues his 183 Miles of Hope journey, he dedicates his sixth marathon to Oscar, a little superhero whose playful spirit and courage remind us that every child deserves moments of joy, connection, and hope.
Oscar is a playful 3-year-old with a big personality and a love for superheroes! Whether he's wearing his favorite cape, playing with his siblings, or watching his favorite shows, Oscar brings joy and energy to those around him.
Oscar was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer affecting his kidney. His journey has included chemotherapy, frequent hospital visits, and long trips for treatment. With weekly chemotherapy appointments more than two hours from home and radiation treatments requiring even longer drives, Oscar and his family have spent countless hours traveling for his care.
Despite these challenges, Oscar is making encouraging progress. After nine weeks of chemotherapy, his family shared that his tumor, initially the size of a softball, had shrunk considerably. Best of all, Oscar was beginning to feel like himself again — playing, laughing, and enjoying the everyday adventures of being a 3-year-old.
Through Hopecam, Oscar received a tablet that has become a valuable companion during treatment. While he's still too young to fully enjoy video calls with family and friends, his tablet provides educational games, favorite shows, and comforting distractions during long car rides and hospital stays. For Oscar and his family, these small moments of normalcy make a meaningful difference.
